Rute Ventura nasce em 1982 em Lisboa, Portugal. Cresce na Spoc um bairro na periferia de Lisboa. Inicia os estudos artísticos aos 15 anos na Escola Secundária Antonio Arroio. Em 2000 frequenta o curso de Desenho na Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes, em Lisboa. Em 2004 conclui o Bacharelato em Escultura e em 2006 a antiga Licenciatura em Artes Plásticas na ESAD, Caldas da Rainha.
Em 2007 Rute Ventura parte para Connecticut nos EUA, onde vive e pinta por cerca de um ano. Em 2008, regressa a Portugal por dois meses para a sua primeira exposição a solo na Galeria do Castelo de Pirescoxe em Loures. Retorna aos EUA, mas desta vez para NY. Colabora numa colectiva de artistas Gelato!, na mesma altura que faz um estágio na P.S.1 MoMA, no Departamento de Instalação.
Presentemente Rute vive em Ridgewood NY onde desenvolve a sua produção artística e colabora com outros artistas. Faz parte de uma organização sem fins lucrativos DAT (Doing Art Together) na qual é professora de artes em escolas públicas e outros locais alternativos para classes sociais despriviligiadas na cidade de NY.
No meu trabalho artístico desenvolvo ideias relacionadas com o corpo humano, a sociedade, o mundo onírico e o mundo feminino. A arte que faço é um reflexo da minha experiência de vida, das reacções com o mundo exterior, do que vejo e presto atenção. Daquilo que considero interessante e necessário de transpor em termos criativos e plásticos. Transformando ideias, coisas imaginárias e sentimentos em algo físico e por isso mesmo, mais real. A selecção de materiais depende das ideias que pretendo elucidar e em como a plasticidade das matérias se relaciona com esses conceitos.
Rute Ventura was born in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1982. Grows up in the surroundings of Lisbon. Starts her Visual Arts studies with 15 years old at Antonio Arroio High School. In 2000 Rute takes drawing lessons at the Nacional Society of Fine Arts, in Lisbon. In 2004 she completes her Bachelor in Sculpture and in 2006 her Masters in Fine Arts at ESAD, Caldas da Rainha.
In 2007 Rute Ventura moves to CT USA, where she lives and paints for about a year. In 2008, she returns to Portugal for two months, to have her first solo exhibition, at Pirescoxe Castle Gallery, in Loures. After the exhibition she returns to the NY USA and gets involved with the art collective Gelato!, at the same time she does an internship at P.S.1 MoMA, in the Building and Installation Department.
At the present time Rute lives in Ridgewood NY producing her art work and collaborating with other artists. She becames part of a non-profit organization DAT (Doing Art Together) with whom she teaches art classes in public schools and alternative sites for under-served crowds in NY city.
My art work revolves around the human body, our society, the oniric world and the feminine world. What I make is a reflection of my life experience, reactions to the world, to what I see and pay attention to. To what I consider interesting to depict into artwork. Transforming ideas, imaginations and feelings in something physical, and for that reason, more real. The selection of materials depends on the issues that each art project emphasizes and in how the plasticity of the matter do best to portray those concepts.
